Statement: Veterans Cannabis Project Congratulates Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee for Passing Medical Cannabis Bill
/Washington, D.C. — Today, the U.S. Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs successfully passed the VA Medicinal Cannabis Research Act from Senators Jon Tester (D-MT) and Dan Sullivan (R-AK). Following this development, Veterans Cannabis Project Executive Director Stephen Jones issued the following statement:
“We applaud the swift consideration and approval of the VA Medicinal Cannabis Research Act out of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee and thank Senators Tester and Sullivan for their leadership on this issue. To see such strong bipartisan support is a testament to the gravity of the situation facing our veterans.
“Spurring the VA to act on this issue and study the myriad health benefits of medical cannabis is an important acknowledgment of and first step toward helping those who put their lives on the line for our country. We look forward to supporting the full Senate in considering this vital legislation, and to backing the similar bipartisan efforts of Congressmen Lou Correa (D-CA) and Jack Bergman (R-MI) in the House as well.”
