Statement: Veterans Cannabis Project Applauds Introduction of New Senate Medical Cannabis Bill
/Washington, D.C. — In response to the introduction of the VA Medicinal Cannabis Research Act by Senators Jon Tester (D-MT) and Dan Sullivan (R-AK), Veterans Cannabis Project Executive Director Stephen Jones issued the following statement:
“We are excited to see re-introduction of the VA Medicinal Cannabis Research Act in the new Congress and applaud the efforts of Senators Tester and Sullivan to move on this issue in a bipartisan manner.
“Our organization hears from veterans from around the country every day on their struggles with safely and effectively accessing even a simple treatment option like medical cannabis. Allowing the VA to fully research and explore the benefits of cannabis is a critical first step in providing relief to so many who are suffering from the visible and invisible wounds of war.
“We are optimistic that, in a time of political combativeness and legislative gridlock, both parties can come together to help those in need who served their country. We look forward to working with Members in both chambers of Congress on enacting commonsense cannabis reforms this year and stand ready to serve on behalf of the countless veterans measures like these would benefit.”
