Statement on House Veterans Affairs Committee Hearing
/Veterans Cannabis Project Executive Director, Doug Distaso, issued the following statement Thursday in response to the House Veterans Affairs Committee’s hearing on of the Veterans Equal Access Act and the VA Medicinal Cannabis Research Act of 2019:
“Today marks vital progress toward treating our veterans with compassion under federal law. These bills would provide the legal access and VA research requirements into medical cannabis that America’s veterans overwhelmingly want as they search for the best way to alleviate suffering and heal their war wounds.
“The number of veterans committing suicide and suffering from opioid addiction and prescription pill overdoses is a national disgrace that could largely be addressed if Congress and President Trump make long-overdue changes to federal law so medical cannabis can be a treatment option for our veterans.”
